Leaf Spot is generally caused by a variety of different disease causing fungi. It begins during the cooler, wet weather of the spring. Spores are produced by the fungus and splashed open by raindrops, where they then cause lesions on the grass blades. There are actually many types of leaf spot fungus, and not all are relegated to spring. In fact, some are more active during the summer.
Balanced fertility and proper grass species are the main keys to controlling Leaf Spot. By fertilizing sufficiently but not excessively, we can minimize damage. Further, if your lawn is highly susceptible to this problem, naturally resistant grass varieties can be aerated and seeded into your lawn, giving it a far better chance of natural survival.
